Premiere: WDDS ‘Migration’

The debut LP from Manchester’s WDDS is an expansive, ambient-tinged ode to the places and faces that shaped him

WDDS will release his debut LP, ‘Migration’, later this month on Hectare Discs. Have an exclusive first listen to the title track below.

Following releases for Woozy and Accidental Meetings, as well as a string of transfixing EPs on his Hectare Discs imprint, the Manchester-based DJ and producer returns with his inaugural full-length: an ambient-tinged ode to the places and faces that shaped him.

Across seven cuts, WDDS (pronounced ‘Woods’) traces his journey from the serene coast of Brighton to Manchester’s sprawling urban jungle via intricately woven threads of ambient, drone, techno, and beyond. What emerges are a series of expansive, lowercase jams, from the reverb-drenched ‘Latency’, with its hazy synthwork and intermittent dub stabs, to the beguiling ‘Seaside Riddim’ which samples seagulls and ocean waves over a decelerated drill beat.

Elsewhere across the project, the label head taps into the more percussion-forward modes of previous releases, including his contribution to Dublin-based Woozy’s ‘WZY2.5’ compilation. Title track ‘Migration’ collides Burial-esque drum patterns with granular piano melodies for a post-dubstep-inspired portrait, ahead of the breaks and jungle hybrid ‘Mushy Impossible’, which features wistful keys from pianist Richie Taylor Holme.

WDDS’ debut album follows his 2023 two-tracker, ‘Pedra’, and 2022’s ‘Microdosing’ EP. Catch him DJing later this month at the third edition of his WDDS and Friends event at Manchester’s Old Abbey Taphouse, alongside Dead Man's Chest, Bop, Synkro and more. Tickets are still available here.

‘Migration’ is out 16th May on Hectare Discs. Pre-order the LP here, and have an exclusive first listen to the title track below.
