DJ Lag announces new album, ‘The Rebellion’

DJ Lag has announced a new album, ‘The Rebellion’, and has shared its lead single, ‘Oke Oke’ featuring Spanish vocalist Jazz Alonso. Check it out below.

Set for release on 21st June via Black Major, 'The Rebellion' is the South African gqom producer and DJ's second album, following his 2022 debut 'Meeting With The King', which was named DJ Mag’s Album Of The Month upon its release.

The 13-track album will showcase DJ Lag’s signature sound while also incorporating influences from genres such as 3-step, Afro-tech, amapiano, and drill. The tracklist includes guests such as Sukes, Vanco, Novelist, Mr Nation Tings, Workaholics, NovaBoy, Koma Mphela, and more.

Speaking about the new track, which was produced alongside Gabrielle Stok (GG), DJ Lag said: "Collaborating with Jazz was exhilarating. Her sound deeply connected with me, and our partnership unfolded seamlessly.. The inception of 'Oke' was spontaneous; Jazz initiated the idea, crafting the flow and lyrics on the spot, with GG and myself completing the song that very evening."

Several recently released tracks will also be included on ‘The Rebellion’. These include the collaborative single ‘Bulldozer’, featuring Novelist, the winner of the Best MC/Vocalist award at the 2022 DJ Mag Best of British Awards, as well as the recently released collaborative track between DJ Lag and Mr Nation Tingz, ‘Hade Boss’.

The Durban artist is currently in the midst of a world tour, having already performed sets in Berlin, Ibiza, Bratislava, and more. Upcoming tour dates include Barcelona, 17th May, Manchester, 18th May, Amsterdam, 19th May, Oslo, 24th May, and London, 26 May. The following month he’ll hit North America, playing in Vancouver on 7th June, followed by a stint down the West Coast of the US before concluding in Washington D.C 22nd June.
