Electronic music pop-up shop, Objet Petit a, opens in Brussels

A new electronic music-focused pop-up record store is opening in Brussels this weekend.

The brainchild of Brussels-based DJs Dana Kuehr and Ailsa Cavers, Objet Petit a (OP-a) will be the Belgian city's first female-run store of its kind and opens with an aim to "promote diversity, inclusion and (eco)feminism" within the local scene.

Based in the Etterbeek area of Brussels, OP-a will sell new and second-hand records, as well as music equipment, clothing, books, magazines and various other forms of music merchandise.

The shop's name is inspired by Lacanian psychoanalysis, with it translating to "the little other". In Lacan terms, this references the concept of "an object of desire".

The store will open on Saturday, 4th May, with a special launch event set to feature music, drinks and food provided by L'Arne Della Pizza. It will be open for nine weeks with an official closing date currently set for 28th July.

OP-a intends to host various in-store music sessions and workshops while it's open, while there are also plans for weekly meditation and sound healing activities. There will be a co-working space at the back of the store where people can work in a quiet environment too.

Keep up with the store via its Instagram page.

Last year, Charlotte De Witte launched a temporary physical store for her record label KNTXT in Brussels.

Last week, Brussels electronic music institution Fuse announced that it would be publishing a book celebrating 30 years since the club first opened.
