PACHA GOES CHICAGO HOUSE

There have been lots of changes at Pacha Ibiza this summer. 

Friday nights are now in the hands of the Insane crew.  They have moved quickly and filled the 40 year old Ibiza institution with a whole host of underground artists, including John Digweed, Fritz Kalkbrenner (regular residents), Uner, Steve Lawler, Joris Voorn, Coyu and Umek, plus tonight's guests - the Chicago house trio of DJ Sneak, Mark Farina & Derrick Carter.

It is the second time that the trio have played Pacha this summer and as before they laid-down on two set-ups b2b2b.

On arrival, the sparsely decorated main room of Pacha was crowded with a relatively young crowd, eagerly anticipating the night’s main attraction. 

The trio took to the decks at 2am with an awe-inspiring approach of enthusiasm that was clearly still present since the three met in record store over 20 years ago.

We got the feeling that Pacha was in for an education from three masters of their craft as they began to lay down the early foundations of their bumpy, filtered disco-house style. 

Carter wowed the crowd with his remix of Groovestyle ‘Freedom Train’ and Farina followed up with a signature selection of tracky, hip-hop influenced house records that have featured heavily on his Mushroom Jazz compilations. 

Sneak, announced his presence with his rendition of Cajmere's 'Brighter Days' and the Chicago House Express was in full-flow.

The promoters of Insane deserve real credit for this booking. Bringing the Chicago originators back to the island where house music has thrived for so long is not only an education, but one hell of a party.

Insane takes place every Friday at Pacha Ibiza.
