PANTHA DU PRINCE: ABLETON EXPERIMENTS

Watch Pantha Du Prince experimenting with Ableton Live...

Ableton has released a trio of artist films featuring DJ Mag fav Pantha Du Prince. A New Sequence follows Pantha du Prince and The Bell Laboratory as they prepare and perform their version of Terry Riley's "In C". The video documents Pantha and the Bell Linrary as they hook up with the musicians at early rehearsals in Oslo.

Viewers also get to see Hendrik Weber (Pantha du Prince) as he’s known to his mum muse on the origins of his art and his current collaboration with the Norwegian percussion ensemble.

The film follows Pantha on his travels as he hits down in London, before a sellout performance at the Barbican Center where the spirited musical interaction between Pantha du Prince and The Bell Laboratory is enhanced by the eyepopping visuals of The Joshua Light Show.

The technical challenges of reinterpreting a major work such as "In C" loom is oh so apparent in the film and makes for a riveting insight into the world of such musical collaborations

The original film was so well received that Ableton decided to make two further films exploring some of the technical and musical aspects of the collaboration between Pantha du Prince and The Bell Laboratory exploring the synergy between electronic and acoustic instruments

In the two additional films we get to see Hendrik showing us how he uses Ableton Live and hardware effects to process the instruments from The Bell Laboratory and sequence his own synths and drum machines while on stage. Plus, we also get to see how how Hendrik used cue points in Live to build a playable arrangement of the instructionbased score of 'In C'.

This is a great watch for anyone who wants to learn more and implement some of the ideas from the films and start getting more from their Ableton performances.
