Q&A: MILLER SOUNDCLASH FINALIST AUGUSTO YEPES

Over the next few weeks we’ll be profiling the Miller SoundClash finalists; getting to know the DJs who will be flying to Las Vegas to compete for a chance to play alongside Dannic at Drais! Today we are speaking with the entry from Colombia, Augusto Yepes!

Tell us in one sentence who you are and where are you from?

"My name is Augusto Yepes, born in Barranquilla, Colombia; I'm an entrepenuer and a music lover."

Where did your love of music first come from?

"My love for electronic music began in my early years, when my cousins and some friends traveled to europe and brought back CDs of house music."

How long have you been DJing?

"11 years, I started at the age of 16 years."

Do you produce music also?

"I have done several remixes."

What’s been the highlight of your career so far? 

"Some gigs across Europe and warming up some of the top DJs."

Tell us about the success as a DJ you’ve had in your own country.  

"I´ve been playing in the best clubs of my country since I was 18 years old (I am 27 right now), sharing stage with the biggest djs worldwide."

How does it feel to win your local Miller SoundClash competition? Tell us about your experience in the competition so far. 

"I am happy and proud that the work I have done for 11 years has been recognized .It has been really nice, miller has treat me very good."

How much does it mean to you to have made it to this stage of Miller SoundClash?

"I am very proud to represent Colombia in the finals."

How do you plan to stand out over the other DJs in Las Vegas? How will you be preparing for the finale?

"Listen to lots of music and make a preselection of the songs I'll play in Vegas."

What makes you unique compared to the other international finalists?

"I think that my connection with the public its what marks the difference."

Who from dance music’s elite do you most respect and take inspiration from?

"Nicolas Jaar, Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler, John Digweed and Sasha are some of them."

How important is it for competitions like Miller SoundClash to give aspiring DJs the chance to show their talent to the world? 

"Very important as people get to know you worlwide."

Tell us a bit about your home country - how is the electronic music scene where you are from? 

"Bogota, the capital, is where you can find the biggest movement of electronic parties, here you can also find the best clubs of the country and festivals with international DJs."
