MILLER SOUNDCLASH GRAND FINALE REVIEW

Over the last few months DJs from all over the world had been vying for a place at the Miller Soundclash Grand Finale in Las Vegas

An unprecedented number of DJs had submitted their mixes to the MGD MixCloud competition page and out of these, 15 lucky DJs were picked to come to Vegas to represent their countries. DJ Mag was on hand to witness the climax of this process that saw the finalists go head to head at the famous Marquee Day Club.

Thursday saw the arrival of the competitors to the fabulous Cosmopolitan Hotel, Las Vegas. Talk about doing things in style, a taste of things to come for the potential winner perhaps? Over the next few days this was going to be the setting and base for the Miller Penthouse Hub with a spectacular view and perfect location for DJs and friends to pop by and enjoy a never-ending supply of ice-cold Miller Draft beer.

The evening itself saw the official start of the Miller Grand Finale with a welcome party for all the DJs and judges at the prestigious Ghost Bar, situated an incredible 55 floors above the iconic Palms Hotel & Casino. Last year’s winning SoundClash DJs Tom & Collins and 2014 finalist Guille Preda were the DJs providing the soundtrack for the evening, a nice way to kick it all off.

Friday was the big day itself, the Grand Finale. The tension and nerves were building up as the contestants gathered for the morning brief. This was a room filled with anticipation and excitement as to what was to come over the next few hours and days.

As a nice gesture the contestants were gifted with a selection of DJ goodies from the sponsors; a UDG kit bag loaded up with personalised boxing robes - a fun touch - V-Moda also equipped the DJs with their very own personalised Crossfade 100 headphones.

The iconic Marquee Day Club was the focal point of the Miller SoundClash Grand Finale, playing host to the day’s events a fitting venue to host this DJ Competition.

The competition started off to a rapturous set from Turkey’s Erdem Senel, taking to the decks first is a daunting task for any DJ especially when there is so much at stake, a cool head and a steady hand is what is needed and this was delivered, handled with aplomb Erdem thrilled Marquee with a pumped up set of EDM floor fillers showing a fine display of deck skills to get the well up for it crowd fired up and ready for more DJing action to come.

With the sun shining down on the fabulous setting of the Marquee Day Club it wasn’t going to be long before the action hit the pool. This was a proper pool party, the beach balls were doing the rounds and the atmosphere was electric, the DJs each in turn adding to the rapture of the event, delivering a fine soundtrack for a fantastic day of partying.

A special shout out has to go to South Korea’s DJ Baryonyx who threw in a wicked curve ball and delivered an energetic slice of drum and bass excellence to a crowd usually versed in EDM anthems. A nice switch up that showed the depth of quality on display and the diverse nature of international music that these guys and girls delivered. Every finalist stepped up and owned the decks, there was some great talent on display worthy of the Miller SoundClash Grand Finale.

The competition side of the party had come to an end with DJ Lima closing it off and giving the contestants a chance to come from behind the decks and join in the madness as they all made a big splash in the pool for some well needed fun time.

With a hard day of DJing behind them it was time for the contestants to kick back and enjoy the night time session, kicking off with drinks at the Hub and a chance to reflect on the day’s events before heading off to Vegas hotspot Hakkasan to continue the experience.

Hakkasan was the perfect spot for the DJs to enjoy the Miller SoundClash experience as they were treated to the full VIP treatment, whisked in at the front door to their very own private area to get to hear the worlds No. 1 DJ Hardwell and enjoy a full on night of music and dancing before the following day’s big reveal as to who would be the winner of the Miller SoundClash 2015.

Saturday gave the DJs the opportunity to get up close and personal with Saturday night’s headliner DANNIC for a Miller SoundClash Master Class.

Lavo was the setting for the evenings award dinner, a plush restaurant on the Vegas strip, a fitting location for the awards ceremony to take place, by now you could feel the anticipation between all the DJs as they waited to hear who would be crowned winner of the 2015 Miller SoundClash, and it wouldn’t be too long before the announcement was made.

DANNIC took to the stage; Colombia’s Augusto Yepes was crowned king of the SoundClash to rapturous applause and jubilation from the crowd, and his fellow DJs, a worthy and well-received winner. Argentina’s DJ Rama was awarded 3rd place and Canada’s FeelGoodSmalls securing the runner’s up position.

But this was not the end as Augusto and the rest of the gang were whisked off to Drai’s to enjoy another night of music and dancing as well as Augusto taking centre stage to open up for DANNIC to another packed room of dance music lovers.

The Miller SoundClash 2015 had found its star DJ but it has also discovered the next generation of international superstars, see you in 2016 for the next edition of the Miller SoundClash.
