Black Rock City, LLC — the company behind world famous festival, Burning Man — has bought up chunks of land in Gerlach, a city near the Black Rock Desert where the event is held.
Reportedly the size of a whole city block, the space was purchased from Giovanni "Bruno" Selmi, a local business owner who runs the city's only diner, gambling hall and motel, for $169,993.
The Burning Man organisers also bought a 3,800-acre Fly Ranch for $6.5 million back in June, "with the intention of amplifying and extending Burning Man culture." The festival also announced plans to set up a base in Holland in 2017.
This year's festival takes place from 28th August to 5th September.
