Berlin's Rave The Planet Parade announces line-up and floats for 2022
Established by the founders of the original Love Parade, crews from Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, UK and Ukraine are all involved, with over 200 artists.
Berlin's Rave the Planet Parade has announced the line-up and floats involved in this year's free event, which takes place on Saturday 9th July.
A variety of crews from the German capital and beyond are confirmed, with more than 200 local and international acts down to play. Among the homegrown groups are techno institution Anomalie Art Club, who have joined curatorial forces with DJ Valerio Sinatra to host Alex Stein, Sophie Kah, MISTRAL, Mha Ari and more. Queer party promoters BEAST & Revolver are also joining, with Christian Smith, Strøm, and Marcel DB.
Disconnekt and Gegen Berlin come together on the day, with an impressive list of artists booked for a predominantly b2b bill, including Bloody Mary and Cristian Marras, and Stephanie Sykes with Jean Philippe. DJ, MC, and dance troupe Freak De L'Afrique will bring African club sounds to proceedings, from Amapiano to Afro tech, while the Ostfunk team go toe-to-toe with psy party Goanautika.
Elsewhere, Belgian non-profit Free People Collective, Cologne's Freigeist Open Air community and Lichtparade, Vienna's Planet Austria, the Independent Polish Underground (representing Warsaw and Krakow), and Dutch troupe Ship of Fools are all set to appear.
Rave the Planet will run its own rig, with Detroit's Alan Oldham (DJ T-1000), Westbam, Dr Motte, and Juliet Fox on the line-up.
Music aside, nightlife ethics and politics are set to take a centre stage. The UK's Save Our Scene movement is heading out for the mammoth street party, and PRU Y RVU, a group standing for inclusivity and freedom, have dedicated their float to the protection of safe spaces. A large number of their performers on the day are a part of the Ukrainian queer club scene.
"It's important to understand that Rave The Planet Parade is a demonstration. Sure, we express ourselves primarily through music and dance — there will be about 20 trucks with different, very versatile DJ line ups. But, also, well thought speeches that highlight the importance as well as the current condition and struggles of our music scene and the related industries," Rave the Planet's Tomasz Guiddo told DJ Mag.
"As a non-profit organisation, Rave The Planet has very clear demands addressed to the authorities and politicians that will hopefully be heard out and understood, while the music and dance convince the wider audience how peaceful and meaningful it can be and how important that feeling of togetherness is. Now more than ever," he continued.
The parade begins at 2PM, with the opening at Uhlandstraße U-Bahn station, before proceeding through the city streets and into the huge Tiergarten park. Music is set to finish at 10PM, at which point revellers have more than enough clubs to pick from for after parties. A public clean up operation will run from 11AM the following morning.

The brainchild of legendary acid house and techno DJ and promoter Dr Motte, who, among other things, set up the original Berlin Love Parade, last year DJ Mag visited the HQ of Rave the Planet to learn about the organisation, and its aims of adding Berlin techno to UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
