Anti-EDL Protest!
Party in the streets of East London with Wretch 32 to make anti-racist stand
Unite Against Fascism and United East End have joined forces to organise an outdoor party as an emergency stand against a protest organised by the English Defence League (EDL) for tomorrow (Saturday 3rd September).
Despite of a ban placed on the EDL by the Home Secretary preventing marches through several districts of London, the right-wing organisation has vowed to hold a “static protest” in the borough of Tower Hamlets throughout the day on Saturday.
To counteract the public display, an anti-racist demo has been organised, according to a statement issued by Unite Against Fascism, to “show that the vast majority of people don’t want the racists and fascists of the EDL in Tower Hamlets or anywhere else”.
To support the event, various bands, DJs and musicians will perform live – including radio DJ Nihal, Wretch 32, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly and Nitin Sawhney – alongside pro-equal rights speakers, campaigners and political poets.
Members of East London’s community (and beyond) will assemble at the corner of Vallance Road and Whitechapel Road at 11am tomorrow to make a peaceful stand against a militant organisation that makes no secret of its rejection of social and racial equality.
