Beautiful Noise

The BFI – or British Film Institute – have teamed up with Noise of Art Recordings for a series of special new audio-visual projects. Combining classic silent films unearthed from the BFI National Archive with new, specially recorded scores by electronic and dance music producers, it's a fusion of past, future, film and music that's bound to generate some exciting and outlandish collisions.

The first link-up, which will be released on DVD this spring, will combine EA Dupont's rare exposé of London 1920s club culture, 'Piccadilly', edited and set to the neo disco rhythms of Les Hommes Du Train. This new 'remixed' film will be entitled Piccadilly Nite Version#1.

Further films to receive the audio-visual remix treatment include 1910's Day in the Life of a Coal Miner (with a new score by acclaimed Soma artist Vector Lovers) and 1906's Visit to Peak Frean and Co's Biscuit Works (versioned by A Man Called Adam). All these and more will be screened with live musical performances by the artists involved at the collaboration's launch party, which takes place on Thursday 24th January at London's BFI Southbank (formerly National Film Theatre). Ben Osborne and Overlap and Punx Soundcheck will also reveal their own AV interpretation for the Nite Versions series. The assembled acts will then DJ in the Benugo Bar.
