When the Top 100 DJs poll began in the 1990s, it was pretty much all UK DJs that featured. But as it became internationalised in the noughties, DJ Mag decided a few years ago to create the Best Of British awards — where we, a UK-based magazine, get to shine the spotlight on the talent bubbling on our own fair shores in an end-of-year round-up once again.

2011 has been a fine year for British electronic DJs and producers. Jamie Jones and Maya Jane Coles have really broken through into the big-time, and there’s a whole new generation — in all styles from house to dubstep, bass music to techno, d&b to melodic dance and so on — following in their slipstream. The UK scene has really never been so vibrant.

The handpicked nominees, and public voted winners, represent the very Best Of British from 2011.
