BIG TUNES: JUNIOR SANCHEZ ‘W2TU’

With Miller Genuine Draft

Junior Sanchez is a bonafide house music legend. Hailing from New Jersey, he helped to define the New York tribal house sound  alongside the likes of Danny Tenaglia throughout the 1990s and has worked with Daft Punk, and Madonna among many others.

Although he never went away, the American is experiencing something of a resurgence of late – having teamed up with Steve Angello to release on Size Records and more recently as one of the figureheads of Angello’s sister label X which was launched to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Size Records.

Angello tell us that X  “has committed to a sound that is a little jackier... a little darker in a sense of production. It’s not as main stage sounding. It’s more clubby, proper, house dance tracks”

This is exemplified perfectly by Sanchez’s latest cut ‘W2TU (Welcome to the Underground)’. Tribal beats roll on at a (refreshingly) frantic pace with a spoken vocal straight out ta Chicago.

It’s not a new idea, and its not breaking any boundaries but it has 100% dancefloor potency and it stands out a mile from the regular Size Records output. We follow the Size X project, with interest!
