BUTLER & BONTAN Q&A

Butler & Bontan throw down exclusive mix and chat

Two of the UK’s most promising house talents have combined for all night back-to-back sessions across the country. Josh Butler (DJ Mag's Best Breakthrough Producer 2014) and Bontan present ‘Be True’ a tour, which will take the duo to 12 different locations between 13th February and 5th April.

Over the last 12 months the pair have enjoyed individual success making them two of the most exciting new artists to emerge from the buzzing UK house music circuit. Since the duo burst into the limelight with tech house anthem ‘Got a Feeling’ both young producer/DJs have been busy writing equally classy jams, storming the Beatport charts, with bombs on some of the world's most esteemed record labels, including Suara, Toolroom and MTA.

The blazing prominent duo exclusively caught up with DJ Mag during their busy schedule for a quick Q&A.

First and foremost, what brought you guys together to make music & tour?

Josh: "Well, we have known each other for years now and actually made some tracks together back in the day, we just never released anything. A few years later we got back in the studio and came up with ‘We Found A Place’ with Josh Barry. We always wanted to explore slightly different musical styles when we collaborate and paying our respects to the classic house music sound seemed perfect."

How long has ‘Be True’ been in the works for & how have you managed to keep it such a good secret?

Bontan: "We’ve been planning the tour for months now. It’s been hard to keep it under wraps but it’s well worth it for the feeling of accomplishment on announcement day."

Of course we all know about ‘Got A Feeling’ & ‘We Found A Place’ but do you guys have any more future collaboration releases in the pipe line?

Josh: "We’ve got plenty more planned, yeah! We have recently just finished a track with Vula, one of the vocalists from Basement Jaxx. I love that girl and her voice is incredible. Can’t wait to share that one with everybody."

How do you think you’ll find touring together for so long will pan out?

Bontan: "We spend so much time together already and argue like a married couple so the tour shouldn’t be too different!"

Finally, is the tour just going to be a one off, or will we hear more from Butler & Bontan in the near future?

Josh: "I wouldn’t say a one off as we work really well together but I think it will be more of a ‘special accession’ type thing and when we do, do it, we do it properly!"

The duo headline Ministry Of Sound in London on Saturday 4th April. More info here.
