Carl Cox: ‘DC-10 is a clubbing phenomenon’

King Carl takes over the Ibiza institution tomorrow night for his One Night Stand shindig...

Carl Cox has revealed that he sees Ibiza nightclub DC-10 as a “clubbing phenomenon” in a new interview with DJ Mag.

He revealed his feelings on the club, which hosts much-loved weekly events Circoloco and Paradise on the White Isle, as he prepares to take over DC-10 tomorrow night (10th August) for his One Night Stand showcase.

“DC-10 started off as a bunch of people that really loved playing music,” he told DJ Mag. “It was basically a restaurant with a dancefloor when it started: no frills. It still doesn't have that many frills to be honest, but it also had a great soundsystem and a great vibe for the people who went there. That's what made DC-10. Now it's a clubbing phenomenon, and the success of what it is today is purely based on development from that.”

Speaking about playing the venue, Cox continued, “It was always somewhere that I could dig deep into the crate and really play the music I wanted people to hear from me. Every time I've played DC-10 it's been very, very special, and I think one of the reasons is because I've rarely played there. I've always loved playing at the club.”

The British icon also recently opened up about how he feels Martin Garrix is the face of the future of electronic music.

Cox and Garrix’s documentary, What We Started, got a worldwide release on 23rd March, being available to stream via on-demand services like iTunes in over 100 countries.

Cox also recently shared his feelings on the recent passing of Avicii, as well as telling DJ Mag the best music to play to annoy your neighbours.
