Carl Cox: ‘Martin Garrix has become the face of the future’

King Carl on the rise of the EDM superstar...

Carl Cox has opened up about how he feels Martin Garrix is the face of the future of electronic music in a new interview with DJ Mag.

Speaking about the documentary he featured in alongside Garrix, titled What We Started, Cox told DJ Mag the trajectory of Garrix’s career is “unbelievable”.

“When you see him play, even he'll tell you, he still has to pinch himself when he thinks, ‘How did I get here?’ Cox said.

“He’s so young. It's taken him five years from being in his bedroom to commanding the money he does. He doesn't do commercial airlines. He has a private jet everywhere and all of the trappings.

“I'm not taking anything away from him, he's created his path and is having the time of his life. He's become the face of the future. If you see the movie, you can understand why he is where he is, and why this won't happen to every one of his age.”

Cox and Garrix’s documentary, What We Started, got a worldwide release on 23rd March, being available to stream via on-demand services like iTunes in over 100 countries.

Cox also recently opened up about his feelings on the recent passing of Avicii, as well as telling DJ Mag the best music to play to annoy your neighbours.
