onvention defying from the outset – starting with its 100th release and counting down to zero – Classic’s days were numbered from day one. But that hasn’t stopped the minds behind it reuniting to put out re-mastered and digital releases from the back catalogue on CD since reaching ‘00’ in 2005, or throwing a series of parties across Europe (London, Vienna, Berlin, Glasgow, Zurich, Mantova) throughout November.

Born out of the shared subterranean appreciations of Chicago house legend Derrick Carter and Music For Freaks label co-boss Luke Solomon in 1995, the label put its hand to releases by Isolee (‘Beaut Mot Plage’), Tiefschwarz’s first album, Matthew Herbert, DJ Sneak, Metro Area and the late, great Kenny Hawkes, it served shoulder the output of what Luke describes as a “family" of DJs and producers who went on to help define house music's legacy, a community germinated through the '90s by Wednesday night party, Space at Bar Rumba, run by Luke and Kenny Hawkes.

And now, with house music “relevant” once again, Luke and Derrick believe now is primetime to throw a series parties entitled Classic Is Your Friend, culminating in London on Saturday 5th November at Hackney Downs Studios with Derrick Carter, Luke Solomun and Rob Mello (10pm-6am).
