Deadmau5 announces new orchestral album and all-ages show

Epic work with award-winning composer Gregory Reveret inbound, and live...

deadmau5's orchestral album, 'where's the drop', has been given a release date of Friday 30th March, with an all-ages live performance of the work set for California on Sunday 1st April.

News of the release surfaced at the beginning of the year, when the artist announced via Twitter he was working on "the most epic thing I've ever done with music". Since then, videos have surfaced of takes recorded alongside symphony players, and now it has finally been confirmed the long-form will arrive in time for Easter, via the Mau5trap imprint.

Two days after the grand unveiling, on Sunday 1st April, deadmau5— AKA Joel Zimmerman— will be joined by a full orchestra to perform the music live at landmark art deco venue The Wiltern in Los Angeles. There will be no age restrictions for the event.

Tickets go on sale to the general public at 9AM Pacific Time on 8th March, although a partnership with streaming service TIDAL means those with an account, including new members, can grab tickets from 9AM Pacific Time on 7th March. The show will also be streamed live on TIDAL when the time comes.

'where's the drop' is the product of an earlier project inspired by the seven deadly sins, '7', which deadmau5 began in 2014. He then met award-winning composer and musical director Gregory Reveret, who has developed the final score, during a Mau5trap Mondays session, the mouse-headed dance icon's radio slot that involves him reviewing fan productions for charity. The latest addition to a growing list of orchestral-electronic collaborations, whether it will match the likes of Jeff Mills and the Montpelier Philharmonic Orchestra, or Sasha's Refracted: Live, remains to be seen.
