December with Moda Black

Jaymo & Andy George take over Fabric & DJ Mag's Club Skate Session at Somerset House.

Radio 1 and Space Ibiza regulars Jaymo and Andy George - heads of the Moda club night and label – are rapidly nearing end of a year of in which they launched their new Moda Black label, which has dropped tracks from the likes of Eats Everything, Shadow Child, Tim Green and Hot Since 82.

You can catch them, and their label crew, in full effect when they take over London's hallowed Fabric (cue Gregorian chanting) on Friday 7th December. With biggidie Moda Black artists Mia Dora and Shadow Child bringing the b-lines to the club's unparalleled soundsystem, the Lincoln lads - whose remix of Pete Tong's 'Dawn' is coming soon on Defected - will also be joined by fellow We Love... residents PBR Streetgang, plus, riding high on the recent chart success of 'Benediction', Ali Love and Luca C under their Infinity Ink guise.

That's not all though as you can also catch Jaymo & Andy on ice! Yep, on Thursday December 13th the duo will be joining DJ Mag for our skate session at Somerset House with special guest Maxxi Soundsystem, whose new Thomas Gandey collaboration 'Shake Your Head' is about to drop on Moda Black.

Hi lads. How was your summer? You played the We Love... closing which must have been immense.

“Yeah man, it's been the best summer yet. We Love has been a ten year institution for us, so to finally be on the other side of the DJ booth as residents this past couple of years is amazing. When you start out Djing, you're dreaming about one day playing at those seminal parties that you love going to, so when it happens it's pretty incredible.

“We Love really took things up a level this year too, bringing some really exciting new names onboard such as George Fitzgerald, Eats Everything and Bicep... They took a risk and I think it really paid off, the parties this year have all been rammed. The closing was obviously a highlight, there's just that extra 10%. People know it's their last chance to let loose and so it all turns into chaos. Not to mention the two day afterparty at Pikes!”

Tell us about your Fabric takeover coming up on 7th December. Who've you got playing? Do you approach such an iconic club in a different way to other gigs?

“I think we approach all Moda parties in the same way; a combination of breaking talent and more established names. Obviously we like to support Moda Black artists. After all, we sign them because we think they're dope! So for this one we've got Mia Dora and Shadow Child, who have both released on MB.

“We've also got fellow We Love residents PBR Streetgang, who we've been big fans of since early 2000s when we started going to their parties in Leeds. They're incredibly diverse, both as producers and DJs, and a lot of fun to have around too!

“And finally we've got Infinity Ink playing, including vocals from Ali Love, which is gonna add a really cool element to the night... All in all it's pretty damn exciting.”

In the last year, you added Moda Black to you list of achievement. What's the label's ethos and what releases do you have coming up?

“It's simply for the darker, more club focused side of what we put out. We've done a lot with bands on Moda Music, so we decided to keep that to one side for those kinds of projects.

“Dropping next week on Moda Black is a very special remix EP. Two of the biggest releases on Moda Black to date have been Hot Since 82's 'Knee Deep In Louise' and Shadow Child's 'So High' so we asked them to remix one another - the results are pretty damn sweet!

Following that we have a wicked collaboration between Maxxi SoundSystem and Thomas Gandey called 'Shake Your Head', which comes with remixes by PBR and ourselves. Then on to 2013 and we'll be introducing a new name to the Moda Black stable who we are very excited about. We're really proud of the entire crew though, alot of effort from alot of people but I think it shows.

Does it mean that Moda is now on a hiatus? If not, what do you have coming from the mothership so to speak?

“Not a hiatus, but certainly less frequent than Moda Black. We're in talks with some bands and live artists at the moment, it's just a matter of when the time is right.”

You're joining us for DJ Mag presents Moda Black at Somerset House Skating on December 13th. What are your ice cool tunes of the moment? And will you be dropping any novelty Christmas tracks to get people in the seasonal mood?

“Well, obviously, everything on Moda Black... Of course, that sounds a little biased, but some of the biggest reactions in our sets are coming from stuff we've yet to release which is reassuring. We've also just remixed Pete Tong's new release, 'Dawn', on Defected. The reaction to that has been nuts, so we'll definitely be dropping that.

“Everything Hot Since 82 does absolutely kills it, he's got some serious bombs in his closet. Dan Ghenacia's new EP is just brilliant, Apollonia is quickly becoming one of our favourite imprints. Also, the new Stefano Ritteri stuff coming on Pets is very nice indeed.

“We can't promise any novelty tunes in our set but Brian Harvey has assured us he's up for doing a live performance of 'Stay Another Day'. Hopefully he wont run over himself on the way to the gig.”
