DEEP HOUSE TOPS THE UK CHARTS AGAIN

Route 94’s ‘My Love’ makes it to the apex

Route 94’s classic-sounding deep house track ‘My Love’ has shot to the top of the UK charts — further proof that deep house has penetrated the mainstream in a big way.

The track, an achingly soulful piano house cut that harks back to the early days of house music, has been championed by Annie Mac and Skream & Benga from BBC Radio 1 in the run-up to its release.

Route 94, aka Rowan Jones, who is just 20-years-old and used to be dubstep producer Dream, takes his name from the highway running between Chicago and Detroit. Until recently he kept his identity secret, and the producer behind the moniker was thought to be anyone from Artwork to Joker.

The London-based producer was very much taken by surprise by the success of his chart-topper, and said he will celebrate “by going out for some food with my girlfriend and then throwing a massive party”. The party is thought to be at The Nest in Dalston, London tomorrow, with Route 94, Artwork and Skream all DJing.

The singer on ‘My Love’ is Jess Glynne, who has already topped the charts this year with classical electronic collective Clean Bandit and ‘Rather Be’.
'My Love' sold 120,000 copies in the UK in the last seven days.
