Following the fatal shooting of controversial rapper XXXTentation yesterday (18th June) Diplo has revealed that the 20 year-old had wanted to work with him and Skrillex on his next album.

XXXTentation – real name Jahseh Onfroy – was pronounced dead yesterday after being shot as he left a motorcycle shop in Pompano Beach, Florida.

Throughout his career Onfroy – who had released two high charting albums – was the subject of mass controversy and legal issues. He allegedly beat his former girlfriend and, last October, was charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, and witness-tampering. Reports in Pitchfork and the Miami New Times outlined patterns of abuse and claims of sexual assault from XXXtentation’s alleged victim.

Responses to the rapper’s sudden death across the Internet and within the global music community have been polarising.

Diplo’s message shared on Instagram – which can be read in full below – mentioned how XXXTentation  had recently been in touch saying that he wanted him and Skrillex to work on his new album. According to Diplo, he had invited the rapper to meet him last week in order to talk about potential collaborations.
