Electro disco meltdown!

Known to most as the man behind LCD Soundsystem, James Murphy also runs the DFA Records stable out of New York alongside Tim Goldsworthy. Both self-confessed music freaks, their deep knowledge of dance music in particular has translated into some incredible remixes, and the occasional rare James Murphy DJ set. With a heavy disco and proto-house focus from the beginning, it appears that Murphy is currently obsessing with early '80s electro disco and boogie, as evinced by his astonishing new edition in the Fabric Live series along with long-time DJ affiliate Pat Mahoney, whose original DFA sets as APT in New York City drew on all forms of the funk to keep the crowds bouncing.

'Fabric Live 36 mixed by James Murphy and Pat Mahoney' out 15th October, steers clear of what anyone might expect of a DJ set from the LCD frontman. There's no punk funk for one, and many of the selections are at least 20 years old: in fact, you could say that this latest mix is as far from the Fabric mix blueprint as possible. But digging deep for tracks classic and obscure, Murphy and Mahoney create an incredible groove narrative that you won't be able to resist.

From Donald Byrd's 'Love Has Come Around' and Instant Funk's 'Mind Made Up', to the future electro disco of Daniel Wang and the DFA themselves, it's sometimes hard to spot the join between old and new - which is all part of the fun. Easily one of the best in the series so far, you need to invest in this gem NOW.
