Elrow your float!

Slingshotting into our Top 100 Clubs poll at position 17, as the highest new entry last month, it's been impossible to ignore Row 14 and its flagship event Elrow, Barcelona's explosive little day/night party.

Devoted to delivering the Catalan capital exactly what it wants — the most renowned names in techno in a sultry club hinged more on fun than haughtiness — Elrow hosted Simian Mobile Disco, Adam Beyer and Sebastian Leger at their Carnival party in February, flexing its muscles as one of the most powerful techno-focused booking forces in Europe. But it's not just the size of the event's enormous line-ups that make this party so special. Combining the mad-cap neo rave craziness of Bangface and the steamy, sweat-dripping decadence of Ibiza's DC10, Elrow is just as associated with its unpretentious, let-your-hair-down mentality as it is with its killer DJs.
“Our carnival party was pretty insane,” Row 14's Juan Arnau tells DJ Mag. “I would say 80% of the people came dressed up, which helped create a real crazy vibe in the club. Imagine 3000 people dressed up and getting loose!"

Indeed. Add to this an avalanche of children's inflatables, rubber rings, swimming floats, fake noses and party hats; a hail of confetti fit for the queen's jubilee this month and a retractable roof niftily put to use above the burlesque performers, you have an atmosphere that makes most other parties look as exciting as a trip to ASDA.

“Always at Elrow, we try to prepare every event differently, try to give the venue a different feel and put an emphasis on the atmosphere of the club through the themes, the decorations and performances each week. It is just about creating the best experience for the punters, always surprising them,” explains Juan. “But most important for us is that the people who come to Elrow feel comfortable and enjoy themselves. We see Elrow as a big family. So if you come to Elrow, you should be open-minded and be there to enjoy yourself. No pretentious bullshit!” 

But, of course, to really understand it, you need to experience it for yourself.
