The 34th annual installment of the CMJ Music Marathon kicks off in New York City today. Over the course of five days (Oct 21st – 25th) venues across Manhattan and Brooklyn will host a 1000+ live performances, along with speaker panels and networking events giving industry newbies a chance to connect and share ideas with brands, managers, influencers, college radio DJs, agents, publicists and entertainment lawyers.
The festival’s multi-genre musical offering has made it a world-renowned discovery platform. Showcases curated by tastemakers give the fastest rising talent the opportunity to show their swagger leading into the New Year. Yes, CMJ is like the pre-breakthrough to SXSW primarily geared towards the indie band scene, but electronic music’s ascent has resulted in it finding a place in the festival’s program. Notable electronic acts like Flume, Ryan Hemsworth, Cashmere Cat and more have performed here in the past.
