Gui Boratto has a new album coming out soon, ‘Abaporu’, and from one spin at DJ Mag HQ it already appears that it’s right up there with his 2007 ‘Chromophobia’ masterpiece.
So when we were offered the exclusive first play of the Brazilian techno don’s new single ‘Joker’, we snapped the offer up before you could say ‘Holy Mackerel!’
‘Joker’ is the follow-up to melodic vocal track ‘Take Control’, and sees Gui upping the ante somewhat to produce a driving, progressive (in the old sense), flittery, widescreen technoid banger. Hear it here:
Gui is one of the finest sound architects around, and his latest album for top German label Kompakt, ‘Abaporu’ — which takes its name from one of Brazil’s most famous paintings, and uses an image in homage to it — combines the accessible with the beautifully worked.
The album is out in September, while the ‘Joker’ single is released early next month (August 2014).
