Foamo re-launches Fat! Records

Interview with Chew the Fat! resident

It’s hard to believe that ‘Jookie/Centavo’, the track which re-launches Fat! Records on 26th of April is only Foamo aka Kye Gibbon’s third release.

Chew the Fat! resident, Foamo was catapulted into the club scene epicentre after Radio One picked up on his debut single. ‘Everything Cool’, but it’s his energetic DJ sets, treading the lines between fidget, funky and dubstep, and his eminently bloggable remixes for the like of La Roux, The Mystery Jets and Man Like Me that has kept him there.

With Chew the Fat! also involved in the massive Londinium warehouse party of 1st May, we caught up to find out more.

As well as the kind of UK funky meets tribal sound of your new single there's a superb Warrior One mix of ‘Centavo’ which has that jungle revivalist vibe that people like Skream and Rusko are on. Having grown up with drum and bass, are you going to be doing anything along those lines?
Ah yeah, love their remix of it!  It's had a wicked reaction when I've played it dropping amen breaks in the middle of a house set! It goes off mad. Yeah, I spent most my teen years listening to D n B so it's definitely had an influence on my production.

What else is coming up release-wise both for you and the newly revived Fat! label?
The next release on Fat! is from Randomer, definitely one of my favourite producers at the moment, so that'll be a really exciting release...

I’ve got some remixes coming out soon with my remix for the Crookers track with Roisin Murphy comes out next. I've also got a couple of really exciting collaboration projects on their way!

Chew the Fat! seems to always stay at the forefront of cutting-edge music and collaborate with the best new promoters. Can you tell us about the Londinium warehouse party that’s coming up on 1st May? It sounds massive.

Yeah, I'm proud to be part of such an exciting night.  The Londinium party we got coming up will be huge! Six promoters over three warehouse rooms. Such a mad line-up too, we’ve got AC Slater over from New York, Heartless Crew, MJ Cole, Plastician, Mumdance, Fabio & Grooverider and Oneman.
