The rise in popularity of half time drum and bass has been something we here at DJ Mag have loved to see — artists like Ivy Lab, Amit (who has to be fair to him been doing it for years), and Om Unit have pushed it to the next level as of late, producing some of our favourite music of 2013/14. Those are some big acts to follow you might think, however Bristol based producer Coleco has stepped up to the challenge and met the standards then some with his latest five tracker, 'The Induction EP'.
The more contemporary production and drum & bass influences set him apart from the before mentioned producers, though a jungle influence is still very present in Coleco's quite ridiculously punchy breaks and off the wall rhythms and grooves.
Our pick from the EP is the brooding, melancholic 'Twenty One & Beyond', which Coleco has very generously given to DJ Mag readers for free! The distinctive purple reese bass sits alongside spacey melodies and trap-like rolling snares to bring together an absolute killer, which sounds equally as brilliant in your bedroom as it does on a soundsystem.
