GET WELL SOON, SONIA!

Key music publicist taken ill

DJ Mag was saddened to hear that Sonia Akow from Push Promotions, also one half of Botchit & Scarper act SOTO, has been taken into hospital with leukemia. A London benefit gig is being organised to help Sonia out financially as she struggles to fight off the condition.

Sonia is well-known in dubstep, breakbeat, bass music, electro and drum & bass circles as someone who supplies a lot of DJs, music journalists and radio stations with new music. As a PR she's a fearlessly hard worker and yet extremely personable with it, and has worked with a veritable who's who of the aforementioned scenes.

Sonia is also a wicked DJ, and has released tracks such as 'Hootenanny' and 'Ghetto Blast Ya!' on Botchit & Scarper Records with her partner Toby as SOTO — the first two letters of Sonia and Toby's names combined.
DJ Mag wishes Sonia well as she battles leukemia — a type of cancer of the blood or bone marrow.

A benefit gig is being organised in London for Sonia in March, with many of the big name DJs who Sonia has worked with over the years volunteering their services to play for free. The gig takes place at The Egg in Kings Cross on Thursday 28th March - the night before Good Friday, which is a bank holiday (the start of the extended Easter weekend). More details to follow soon.
