Girl, a new documentary focusing on female DJs, is to be released this June.

Directed by Kandeyce Jorden, the feature-length documentary focuses on the pioneering female DJs in electronic music. Produced over a 15-year period, Girl features interviews with and footage of DJs including Sandra Collins, DJ Rap, DJ Irene, Colette and DJ Lady D.

The film documents the electronic music scene in the early 2000s, a time when the industry was largely male-dominated, and beyond. It also sets out to tell the stories of the women behind the scenes and highlights the engulfing nightlife and club cultures.

Girl also focuses on the deep relationship that developed between the director and DJ Sandra Collins during the making of the film. Jorden became fixated by Collins and followed the DJ to her gigs and travels around the world, which included trips to Mexico, Burning Man and Russia, as seen in the film.

The soundtrack, which Jorden funded via an Indiegogo fundraising campaign, features music by The Chemical Brothers, Satoshie Tomie, Colette, The Crystal Method, Gabriel & Dresden and others.

Girl will be available on Amazon, iTunes and Google Play on 1st June.
