Despite citing Tiësto’s 'Delerium (In Search of Sunrise Remix)' as one of his most formative record purchases, Josh Butler’s own music couldn’t be further from that of his early trance idol. Creating thunderous club cuts with a phat side serving of soul, Josh Butler’s take on heritage house has enthralled clubbers en masse this year, nabbing him DJ Mag's well-deserved crown of Best Breakthrough Producer.
“A HUGE thank you to everyone who voted, this means a lot to me and I'm truly grateful,” he gushes to DJ Mag upon news of the win, before picking his multiple sets on the White Isle as his highlight of 2014. “My Sankeys Ibiza gigs are definitely up there, great memories!”
No one could accuse Josh Butler of being idle. In addition to Ibiza, the last 12 months have seen him spin in South Africa, Australia and at ADE, not to mention the stratospheric success of his single ‘Got A Feeling’, which is sitting at No.2 on Beatport’s Best Selling Singles. Ever.
Most recently, he’s offered up his totem to 2014's acid house revival in the form of his aptly titled ‘Sideways Acid’ EP, which sees him flirt with the classic building blocks of the genre (warbling 303s, acerbic synths, the works!) as well as a nod to a few newfangled production FX.
Next year, Josh is set to release on Noir, Kerri Chandler’s Madtech plus Berlin based label-of-the-moment, Avotre as well as continue his partnership with his buddy, Bontan who helped craft their dual EP ‘We Found A Place’. “I have a side project planned with Bontan called 'Be True', we will be releasing some music together and also doing some special extended b2b sets around the UK!"
