KATE SIMKO PERFORMS WITH ORCHESTRA

Kate Simko, the London-based DJ originally from Chicago, now attends the Royal College Of Music’s Composition For Screen course, and her new project is the London Electronic Orchestra — a mixture of traditional orchestra instruments, with Kate on live electronics. Her new orchestra project makes its debut in London next month.

Kate grew up with a classical music training before falling in love with electronic music in Chicago in the mid-‘90s. She immediately enlisted on a music technology course, and has been developing her sound ever since — over the years releasing on Get Physical, Leftroom, Ghostly, Spectral Sound, Traum and Hello? Repeat, who also put out her debut album in 2011, ‘Lights Out’. She’s also played in many of the world’s best clubs. 

Her tracks have always been musical, deep and lush house and techno music, but since enrolling on the RCM course she’s developed an interest in orchestras again.

This project, beginning with a gig at London’s Britten Theatre on March 12^th, sees her work with a 36-piece orchestra from the RCM. “The London Electronic Orchestra transform the melodies of synthesizers into lush orchestral moments, which weave in-and-out of groovy electronic rhythms,” promises the blurb.

Kate will perform her glistening, cinematic remix of minimalist composer Philip Glass’s ‘Houston Skyline’, and orchestral covers of electronic music, as well as her own original productions.

There will also be an interactive visual accompaniment, designed by the Parisien Adrien de Maublanc from the acclaimed Masomenos AV act.
