What’s life really like as a superstar DJ? Well, considering he’s the brains behind one of the globe’s most illustrious labels, Toolroom Records, as well as a mighty fine, jet-setting DJ in his own right, British DJ/producer Mark Knight is certainly in a position to know.

From its humble beginnings as Tool Shed back in 2003, the label has enjoyed a vastly successful past nine years, emerging as one of the UK’s most pivotal in the process. With a host of esteemed names all producing tracks for the label (David Guetta, Tiësto, Eddie Halliwell and of course, Knight himself), they’ve earned a deserved reputation for their seemingly endless list of inimitable releases. Their vast discography incorporates a host of genres and contrasting producers too, with everything from tech house to techno to electro all finding favour within the Toolroom ranks. The imprint’s forte, though, remains its consistent and quality-laden output, with each and every record on the label produced with what Knight likes to call “a twist of funk”.
Groove and atmosphere, then, have proved a hallmark of the imprint, so it’s only apt that they’ve enhanced their credentials over the past few years by turning their hand to a series of riotous parties, both in the UK (particularly at London’s Ministry of Sound) and abroad, with label showcases in global destinations such as New York, Amsterdam and Miami.

It’s this shrewd foreign agenda that’s really contributed to the label’s fast-growing international scope, with the Toolroom Knights parties at Ibiza institution Space an impressive snapshot of all that they represent. As such, Toolroom will duly be returning there this summer, taking over the infamous terrace at Wednesday night party Be (where Knight is playing an impressive 19 times as a resident), with dates for your diary including July 4th, July 18th and August 22nd. In typically impressive fashion, Toolroom will be calling on friends of theirs from many corners of the musical spectrum, and will be buoyed by the mainstays of Knight’s label such as Sander van Doorn and live acts a la R&B sensation Kelis.
