Last FM's Tips for the Top

Online radio station's 2008 tips

Last FM – the website on which you choose the music you want to listen to, and have music in the same vein recommended to you by the program's automatic system – have revealed the most popular new artists being listened to, who they tip for 2008.

In the wake of BBC Online predicting success for songstress Adele, Last FM's list of favourites looks considerably more underground and reflective of the tastes of Last FM listeners. Top of the heap is Santo Gold, the NYC singer/rapper who, like Adele, has worked with Mark Ronson. But Gold is moving in a considerably more 'dance' direction, with her album, largely produced by Switch, due to drop imminently, and comparisons to MIA doing the rounds.

Cool Kids are also proving popular. The lo-fi rap duo tipped by DJmag in our January issue look set to do big things with their forthcoming album on Chocolate Industries, and track 'Black Mags' blowing up everywhere and featured on DJ Craze's new Fabric mix comp. Boys Noize has got the nod from Last FM subscribers, too, for his electro trash, beat-strewn noise grooves, with more up and coming types including The Ghost Frequency, Drop the Lime and Glasvegas.
