LAST NIGHT ON EARTH (BEST LABEL)

Sasha's imprint stepped it up in 2014...

Imagining it's your last night on Earth is probably the kind of thing that life coaches do to trick you into admitting that you've never really followed your deepest hopes and dreams (those box-sets aren't going to watch themselves, after all). But it also evokes the kind of determined clarity of purpose that has driven the career of Sasha, whose Last Night on Earth imprint was voted this year's Best Label.

Kicking off in 2011 with Sasha's own 'Cut Me Down' single, the label has not only served as a platform for his personal output but also as a place for nurturing fresh talent borne from a shared love of melodic electronics, the term prog having slipped out of favour even as its influences are re-emerging in the DNA of everyone from Innervisions to Life and Death.

“It's been a great year for Last Night on Earth, with some really strong releases from Henry Saiz, whose new EP will also be the last release of the year for us,” the Transatlantic-hopping DJ tells us when we congratulate him on the label's win. “We've also had some great music from Hunter/Game, Alex Niggemann and Ejeca this year, and are looking to continue working with these acts on the label going forward.”

With this core of artists Last Night on Earth has also showed its pulling power on the dancefloor, settling into an Ibiza residency at Space and hosting its own stage at London festival SW4 the most notable highlights.

“Next year is shaping up to be bigger than any year we've had so far, with some big releases in the pipeline already,” promises Sasha, who tells us this will mean new talent and some more techno-focused gear. “There will also be some new music from myself to look forward to, along with a couple of collaborations I'm working on... but that's still on the lowdown for now, so stay tuned!
