LEEDS: WAREHOUSE 34TH BIRTHDAY

2ManyDJs, Paul Woolfood and Gang Colours to celebrate the UK's oldest club

It’s a sad but true fact that the vast majority of clubs fizzle out after a relatively short period in the game. Those that do last a decade are rightfully celebrated, while others that reach the milestone that is 20 years are lavished with similar praise. Few, if any, have lasted past their 30th birthday; which is one of many reasons why Leeds’ revered Warehouse remains such a treasured part of the North’s musical fabric.

Indeed, the fabled club has lasted a fair bit past its 30th birthday, so much so that Sunday 31st March will see them blow out the candles on their 34th successive year. They’ve gone all out for the occasion too, drafting in eclectic Belgian beat-smiths 2manydjs to headline alongside local hero Paul Woolford.

Over the years, of course, the club has developed considerably and adapted to the sound of the times, so both the Dewaele brothers and the producer sometimes known as Bobby Peru encapsulate the venue’s ethos with ease. Joining them on the line-up will be the dubstep/R&B leaning Gang Colours, with the fledgling British DJ/producer one to watch out for having already cropped up on George Fitzgerald’s ManMakeMusic and Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood imprint.

To be frank, not many clubs last this long. So if you haven’t already experienced it for yourself, perhaps now is the time you unearthed the secret behind The Warehouse’s evergreen appeal…
