London City Airport loops landmark Brian Eno album
Over and over and over...
London City Airport has today been playing the landmark Brian Eno album, 'Ambient 1: Music For Airports', on constant loop to celebrate the release's 40th birthday.
A shrewd move that has understandably garnered plenty of publicity for the terminal, this is likely the first time the record has been amplified in similar surroundings to those that first inspired its creation.
"The anniversary of Brian Eno’s famous work is an apt occasion to play the full album in its intended environment – an airport," explained Melanie Burnley, Director of Customer Experience at London City Airport. "It is a subtle album which creates a calm and pleasant ambiance as passengers make their way through to Departures."
Sadly the stunt was only planned for one day, but this isn't the only Eno related news at the moment. A six-CD or nine-LP limited edition box set, 'Music For Installations', is slated for released on 4th May, comprising soundtracks to the visual exhibitions he has hosted, and he is also one of the artists involved in the current 'Hexadome' exhibition, at Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin, which runs until 22nd April.
