LWE & DESOLAT GEAR UP FOR NEW YEAR'S DAY

One step further

Ever since the smoking ban, the UK's dancefloors ain't been so smokin' — for obvious reasons. It might be annoying when your entire group of mates (all three of 'em) flee the dancefloor for a fag just as you're reaching for your ultimate secret weapon — that super rare Kerri Chandler 12” that cost almost 40 quid on Discogs — but that certainly isn't more important than the need to protect people from unsolicited plumes of passive carcinogenic smoke. Saying that, raves did start as an escape from the ears and eyes of bureaucracy, so the less sanitised by health-and-safety red tape the better, right?

Striking a fine balance, London Warehouse Events (LWE) has teamed up with Martin Buttrich's Desolat, the label he runs alongside Loco Dice, to take it one step further on New Year's Day. Rather than just occupying a derelict building — one of those “secret locations” we've all been to millions of times before — London's leading warehouse promoters have sniffed out a never-used-before, grade-one-listed building in Docklands, built 1811, to throw another enormous party in the capital, this time to continue the New Year celebrations, with Seth Troxler, Maceo Plex, Heidi, Martin Buttrich and TiNi, among others, laying down sets from 2am to midnight.

And to top it all off, the party is licensed — so completely legal, meaning the building is fit for purpose — and, to satisfy any smoking (fact) fanatics among you, this landmark location was used to store tobacco during the 19th Century. Okay, so you might not be permitted to puff away inside like a Victorian factory worker all day, but you catch our drift...
