MIAMI BLOG: DAY SEVEN

Friday March 22nd

So as we move into the final few days of WMC 2013, Miami is packed once again. Ultra kicked off the second week yesterday and Collins avenue is packed to the brim with party people. The #Ultranauts are back!

This year has seen a dramatic increase in the number of pool parties in South Beach. It feels like almost every hotel on Collins is running events now, and the production values have grown beyond all expectation - creating a walking city festival down Collins Avenue.

It has also been the year - no doubt down to the the EDM explosion in the states - that the branding of DJs has gone into overdrive. Whether it is the Avicii Hotel (including a branded golf cart that drives guests around Miami, while thumping out Avicci tracks) or the huge tour buses that roll around South Beach (see Steve Aoki's pictured below) - you can't walk down Collins Avenue without seeing huge visual symbols of how big dance music is right now.

We spent the day poolside at DJ Mag at Delano where Guy Gerber's Supplement Facts party rolled into town. With a huge lineup that included Gerber, Davide Squillace, Martin Buttrich and more it was no surprise to see the pool and deck area packed to the brim.

We also nipped across the road to Pete Tong's pool party at The Surfcomber, where Pete was joined by Skream and others for his annual daytime shindig. The customary roadblock ensued.

The evening kicked off at FDR (Delano's intimate club venue) where Jonathan Cowan and Stacey Pullen played back2back. We went from there to Lincoln Avenue's Score venue, where Danny Tenaglia threw one of his famous marathon Miami parties, which was unfortunately cut short due to the arrival of those pesky fire marshalls. All the same, it was a vintage Tenaglia set of tribal house, disco licks and spontaneity aplenty.

Meanwhile, at Ultra, Avicci enlisted the vocal support of Aloe Blacc for his main stage set, and the Daft Punk hype went into overdrive as a video of the group's Saturday Night Live commercial was projected onto a building at the festival's exit.

There are two days left to go and lots going on tomorrow. Ultra weekend two continues, James Zabiela's boat party sets sail and Get Lost, now at Ice Palace, embarks on 24 hours of undergorund music.
