Above & Beyond on Detroit

Home of Motown, techno and booty bass, the ravaged remains of Detroit, once the heart of America’s car building industry before its collapse, is an unlikely place for Above & Beyond to shoot the video to their new collaboration with Gareth Emery. But an accompanying making of film gives a  moving insight into the lives of those left behind in a city where a third are unemployed, and documents their on-going efforts to rebuild a sense of community through the Detroit Urban Farms project.

Inspired by an article in The Guardian, the film follows the lives of various members of the Georgia Street Community Collective as they seek to bring shape, form and pride back into areas where nature has begun to take over houses because they’re been abandoned for so long.

Above & Beyond & Gareth Emery pres. OceanLab 'On A Good Day (Metropolis)' is released on 31st October on Anjunabeats.

The video is directed by Steve Glashier who has made videos for Fatboy Slim and Juliette Lewis.

As part of their 2011 US tour,Above & Beyondwill also be playing a Detroit charity gig to raise money for theGeorgia Street Community Collective’s current projects which include building a computer lab and neighbourhood library.

Above & Beyond takeover London’s O2 Brixton Academy on 30th October.
