Melt is that most modern kind of event, curated with the modern listener in mind.
Topping the bill is Miss Golden Tonsils herself Björk, whose seminal list of albums have seen her collaborate with 808 State, Tricky, Rahzel and LFO among others. Italian crunk house kids Crookers are set to appear, facing off against disco punks Franz Ferdinand; techno types Ellen Allien, Cobblestone Jazz, Tobias Thomas and Gui Boratto will crank the serious beats out; and Roisin Murphy will be keeping it glamorous with her immaculate electro pop.
And if they're not enough, try Hercules and Love Affair, Booka Shade, Gus Gus, Miss Kittin and The Hacker, Efdemin, Alter Ego, Modeselektor, Uffie and Feadz and Friendly Fires on for size.
Far from the green fields of many such a fest, Melt plays it different: the backdrop of five immense old coal diggers looms ominously, lending an industrial feel to the event. Basically, you need to be there!
Tickets are priced at €85 for the three days and are available from lastminute.com. Getting there is simple: Air Berlin flies direct from London-Stansted to Berlin (80 minutes shuttle bus ride from Ferropolis). Fares start from as little as £24 one-way (incl. taxes) and reservations can be made via airberlin.com or through the 24-hour telephone service centre on 0871 500 0737.
