Nero top UK chart with 'Promises'

Dubstep duo establish themselves on the mainstream music scene

Dubstep sensation Nero have hit mainstream heights by reaching the number one spot in the Official UK Chart.

Highly significant for dance music and perhaps representative of an overturn in public tastes, Nero knocked off X Factor pop singer Cher Lloyd in the

process. Having been short-listed for the BBC's Sound of 2011, the duo that consist of Daniel Stevens and Joe Ray have come a long way since starting out as YouTube hopefuls. Understandably ecstatic about their now official mainstream success, Nero said on Twitter: “Wow we’re number 1 in the UK midweek chart, thanks to everyone that’s bought the single so far!”

With their debut artist album 'Welcome Reality' released today, Nero have good reason to be highly optimistic that the album will attract fans that go beyond the spectrum of rave-enthusiastic dance fans. The track has also surpassed over 4.4 million views for its music video on YouTube, yet further confirming its establishment on the mainstream music industry. In fact, the attitude of YouTube forums appear to be swinging towards a monumental shift away from X Factor culture onto dance music, including one user that was keen to stress this: “Thank god that this knocked Cher Lloyd off the top spot”, as well as an equal enthusiast who made reference to Neil Armstrongs famous quote by saying: “1 small step for Nero, 1 huge step for Dubstep”.

Nero’s chart success follows up from the exploits of fellow dubstep and drum and bass chart-topper DJ Fresh, whose club-friendly hit 'Louder' also reached number one last month, selling over 140,000 copies in the process.
