PETE TONG BRINGS BAZAAR TO IBIZA

Giving something back to the island

“I have known Damien (Hirst) for a while and he came to Ibiza for the first time last year and had a great time,” Pete Tong tells DJ Mag when we ask him how on Earth he got the art tycoon to design flyers for his new weekly project at Ushuaia. “He liked the way I had used artists in the past, like Goldie, and was interested in getting involved. The idea grew from there... it's still pretty mindblowing that he's doing it!”

Indeed, but jazzy artwork is not the only impressive thing about his new Friday event. “I wanted to create the feeling of a weekly mini festival and start to utilise other areas of the space, not just the main stage,” he adds. “We will be the only party that has a lunchtime and afternoon session that will culminate with an hour of a new radio show for the USA, and internationally around the world.”

Those gutted his It's All Gone Pete Tong parties have left Pacha won't be disappointed to hear Le Grand Bazaar will have a similar focus — the afternoon sessions focusing purely on less discovered acts and the evening going all out. Hot Natured (live), Carl Cox, Calvin Harris, Eric Prydz, Paul Kalkbrenner, Afrojack, Hot Since '82, Reboot, Dyed Soundorom and System of Survival make the line-up so far.

Le Grand Bazaar runs weekly at Ushuaia between 5th July and 30th August.
