Premiere: Black Gold Buffalo ‘Lay It Down (Violet Remix)’

Fast-rising Portuguese DJ/producer Violet delivers a mesmerising, propulsive remix of east London outfit Black Gold Buffalo’s ‘Lay It Down’...

About four years ago, east London’s Black Gold Buffalo were one of the most exciting emerging acts in the UK capital. Having vanished suddenly with a lot of unfinished business to account for, the outfit returned back in April with a stellar debut self-titled LP of absorbing, dark pop jams with a post-punk edge on their own Buff Rekkids label.

Now, the band are set to deliver a remix EP for one of the album’s highlights ‘Lay It Down’, set for release once again on Buff Rekkids.

Remixes come from hugely exciting names, Whatever/Whatever, Violet and Ghost Culture, with each bringing their own distinct flavour to a track that confronts the ideas of wanting to escape the disillusionment of the city and its corporate climate.

Violet’s remix – premiering below – showcases the fast-rising Portuguese DJ/producer’s talent for retaining the original cut’s emotional heft while curating the percussive energy to turn it into a dancefloor ready cracker.

"It was my first time remixing a band but the stems were so interesting and danceable that everything kind of fell into place when I started working with my drum/perc heavy, emotional approach in mind,” said Violet of the remix. “Also had lots of fun reworking the vocals, I want to do it more often now."
