Premiere: These Machines ‘Martina (feat. Rafael Berrio)’

Steve Mac’s new project, These Machines, emerges with a gorgeous, soulful house number with lush pianos, sunshine acid and a sweet vocal from Rafael Berrio...

Steve Mac has been quietly prolific in the past two decades or so. From his days as one half of mighty house duo Rhythm Masters (who remixed Todd Terry, Michael Jackson and David Morales to great acclaim) to years as head honcho at Disfunktional Recordings, a label that released tracks by Paul Woolford, Giorgio Moroder and Danny Tenaglia among others.

The Brighton producer's latest project, These Machines finds him striving to utilise the myriad bits of hardware he’s acquired through the years to celebrate the influence of the many diverse and versatile artists he’s crossed paths with along the way. From house producers old and new to a band he met in the pub, the influences (and guest musicians) that feed into this expansive new project make for a buffet-like listening experience.

On ‘Martina’ – premiering below – Mac recruits Rafael Berrio to lay down a soulful, gripping vocal over the balearic house groove that was inspired by the energy and looseness of the band he met.

“I want to make music from the heart,” said Mac of this new project. “It’s the interaction of people and machines that I’m really fascinated with.”
