Premiere: Yazz Ahmed ‘Jamil Jamal (DJ Khalab Remix)’

Yazz Ahmed enlists three top notch producers for her 'La Saboteuse Remixed' EP. DJ Khalab’s rework of ‘Jamil Jamal’ gives frantic, electronic verve to the original’s jazz experimentalism...

Bahrani-British experimental jazz artist Yazz Ahmed left us stunned last year with her stunning LP on Naim Records. In ‘La Saboteuse’ the composer, trumpeter and flugelhorn player – who has previously worked with Radiohead and These New Puritans – pushed traditional jazz tropes to the edge, crafting a sprawling, ambitious album that was at once challenging and thrilling.

Now, Ahmed has enlisted some top notch producers to reimagine some of the LP’s highlights for 'La Saboteuse Remixed', a new EP that will drop on 17th August.

Joining Hector Plimmer and Blacksea Não Maya is Italian ‘Afro-Futurist Beatmaker’ DJ Khalab whose penchant for frenzied electronic manipulations of organic sound is put to tremendous use in his remix of ‘Jamil Jamal’. In it, the producer brings a frenetic, blistering energy to the original cut's swerving, expansive jazz.
