Q&A: MILLER SOUNDCLASH FINALIST ERDEM ŞENEL

Over the next few weeks we’ll be profiling the Miller SoundClash finalists; getting to know the DJs who will be flying to Las Vegas to compete for a chance to play alongside Dannic at Drais! Today we are speaking with the entry from Turkey, Erdem Şenel!

Tell us in one sentence who you are and where are you from?

"I am Erdem Şenel from Turkey. I am 27 years old and have been DJing for 8 years."

Where did your love of music first come from?

"I have been interested in music since I was tender age. I have always loved creating my own sets."

What’s been the highlight of your career so far? 

"I was on top of my career in 2013. I performed with famous DJs at popular night clubs."

Tell us about the success as a DJ you’ve had in your own country.  

"I performed with popular pop singers Murat Boz and Fettah Can. Once, I warmed up the crowd in world famous star Eddy Wata’s performance. Moreover, I worked as a music director in important organizations."

How does it feel to win your local Miller SoundClash competition? Tell us about your experience in the competition so far. 

"My aim was always to be the winner of Turkey. However, I was so surprised when I heard my name announced as the winner! Being a part of Miller SoundClash is a very exciting experience for me. During the whole contest, I had very good time with other finalists. In addition, I had the opportunity to meet the best producer DJs in Turkey. It was an unbelievable experience for me."

How much does it mean to you to have made it to this stage of Miller SoundClash?

"One of the best stages that I have ever performed was SoundClash’s where I performed at the final night in Nuteras. I definitely think that I will be the DJ who will perform with Dannic at Vegas Marquee Club at the global final in Las Vegas."

How do you plan to stand out over the other DJs in Las Vegas? How will you be preparing for the finale?

"I need to make sure I stand out from the other DJs, so I’m working hard on producing my own remixes."

What makes you unique compared to the other international finalists?

"I trust my attitude, energy and the sets I make compared to other international finalists."

Las Vegas is the EDM capital of the USA, with major DJs playing every weekend. If you could meet and hang out with one of these DJs in Vegas, who would it be and why?

"I would choose Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Ummet Özcan & Fedde Le Grand. They are my idols and I believe that there are many things to learn from them. Being together with them for a weekend would be an amazing experince for me."

Tell us a bit about your home country - how is the electronic music scene where you are from?

"My city, İstanbul is a metropole and it is known with ist colorful night life however, electronic music was really popular in Turkey until 2012. Since then, the number of electronic music festivals are constantly increasing. "
