First record you ever bought?
“First record I bought was 'Dancing In The Street' by Martha Reeves & The Vandellas. It was a picture disc, 45 rpm (1964), and naturally a big track at the time.”
Two tunes you first tried to mix?
“How can I forget? 'Expressway To Your Heart' by the Soul Survivors (1967) 45 rpm and '(I Wanna) Testify' by The Parliaments (1967) 45 rpm.”
First-ever gig?
“A place called Club El Morocco which was situated in 52nd St & 2nd Ave, NYC.”
Fondest club experience?
“It will have to be NYE at the Ministry Of Sound back in my London days. Graeme Park was playing before me, played a great set and it was a hard act to follow. I then played for two hours and was asked to stop the music for another two hours because of the law. The MOS crowd sat on the floor watching ambient videos. Afterwards, I resumed until 9am. A great memory and moment!”
Worst club experience?
“Oh, that’s easy — a Sunday speed-garage party in London...”
Most mental event?
“Keeping composure at a gig where I was told my business partner had died in his sleep.”
Most significant club of all-time?
“The Loft with David Mancuso, NYC — for all kinds of reasons.”
Any era, anywhere?
“Most definitely in Brooklyn NY in the 1970s... a wonderful time and place...”
