SIGMA SHOOT TO UK NO.1

Drum & bass duo zoom straight to the top of the charts

The UK drum & bass scene was celebrating last night with the news that scene stalwarts Sigma had shot to the top of the UK singles chart.

'Nobody To Love', their revamp of Kanye West's 'Bound 2', sold over 120,000 copies during the week to scoop the coveted No.1 slot — the third biggest-selling single of the year. Watch it here:

The track takes just the anthemic chorus from the Kanye cut, leaving out Kanye's rhymes and turning it into a feelgood d&b tune. After their original remix a few months ago, Sigma re-recorded the hook from the Kanye track with a session singer.

'Nobody To Love' is only the second drum & bass track to top the UK charts, following DJ Fresh's 'Hot Right Now' a couple of years ago. Sigma were at one point signed to Fresh's label, Breakbeat Kaos.

Fresh and Sigma themselves collaborated on big tune 'Lassitude' in 2010 (below), and Sigma have since come with a number of big drum & bass cuts as they established themselves as one of the principal new-wave acts in the scene.

Cameron Edwards and Joe Lenzie (Sigma) met at drum & bass nights in Leeds in the mid-noughties. Lenzie, known on the scene as Wooz, has also made some breakbeat tracks with DJ Jimmy Mofo as Beat Assassins.
