SONAR SET FOR ‘GOOD TIMES’

Nile Rodgers and Chic among 50 new acts for Barcelona fest

Sonar festival, the Barcelona original whose offshoots have been touring the world recently, have just announced 50 new acts for their June event.

Rejuvenated disco legends Nile Rodgers and Chic are going to be supplying da live disco-funk at Sonar — a veritable history lesson. Wonder guitarist Nile Rodgers, of course, has recently been working with Daft Punk and Disclosure (see last year's Glastonbury gig below), and there are many other treats in store for Sonar devotees.

There will also be an avalanche of Nordic artists at Sonar this year. Swedish singer Neneh Cherry and fellow Swede Lykke Li will both be showcasing their new albums, while Norwegian electronic duo Röyksopp are teaming with Swedish singer Robyn for an exclusive new Nordic hook-up.

Norway space disco dude Todd Terje and Danish electronicist Trentemoller have also been added to the bill.

DESPACIO, the new project of James Murphy from LCD Soundsystem and the Belgian Dewaele brothers 2ManyDJs, will be playing vinyl for six hours a day for three days at the Sonar By Day event, and individual sets at night too.

Plus there will also be shows by Kid Koala, Dam Funk, Audion, Matthew Dear, and South African psychedelic supergroup Fantasma, helmed by Spoek Mathambo.

They all join Massive Attack, Richie Hawtin and Plastikman, Caribou, Rudimental, Four Tet, Bonobo, James Holden, Jon Hopkins and lots of other acts already announced.

All tickets for Sonar by Day and Sonar by Night are on sale new. More info here
