Stormzy launches #Merky Books in association with Penguin Random House

You're never too big for the book...

Stormzy has launched a publishing imprint alongside Penguin Random House called #Merky Books.

Revealing the move via Instagram the grime star, who headlined last weekend’s Wireless festival in London, said that the publisher’s first book, titled Rise Up: The #Merky Journey So Far, would arrive on 1st November.

He also revealed that the imprint will be taking submissions from young writers in an attempt to inspire further generations of authors.

“We will be using this as a platform for young writers to become published authors,” he said, adding: “I know too many talented writers that don’t always have an outlet or a means to get their work seen and hopefully #Merky Books can now be a reference point for them to say ‘I can be an author’ and for that to be a realistic and achievable goal.

“Reading and writing as a kid was integral to where I am today and I from the bottom of my heart cannot wait to hear your stories, your poems, your novels, your sci-fis and then getting them out into the big wide world.”

The publishing imprint will be seeking out young writers via school competitions, while others are encouraged to submit their work outside of such competitions also. He also revealed that #Merky books would be offering a position for a paid internship in 2019.

The first book can be pre-ordered here where you can also find more information on how to submit your own work.
